Mary says: “Yes that’s the fireplace. It was something like painted stucco? A mottled yellow-mustard color. And those cool fireplace tools. What a wonderful photo–thanks for sharing!
Dee Dee says:”I remember a couple of times when Minnie and Grampy had run out of fuel oil. They had an oil-burning furnace; the tank was in the basement, and the oil man would drive a truck around Casco Point and snake the hose up to
the back of the house, attach it to a standpipe in the ground, and pump in fuel oil to fill the tank. When the Point was snowed in, they kept the furnace going until the tank ran dry, and then Grampy would build a fire in the fireplace. I remember having popcorn, popped over the fire, and apples, and doing jigsaw puzzles (well, the adults did). As a four-year-old, I thought it was wonderful and exciting; we all (my mom, your mom, Minnie and Grampy) lived in the living room around the fireplace! From my point of view it was “woo hoo!” I’m sure from Minnie’s and her daughters’ points of view it was “Oooooh nooooo!”
I’d love to know where this was taken. They look so happy! It’s the quintessential Christmas photo,
